NEW STUDIO ALBUM AND FORUM DATE FOR JULIET TURNER
Juliet Turner, one of Ireland's most interesting and gifted female songwriters plays Waterford's Forum on Saturday, 5th July. Currently on an extensive nationwide tour in support of the release of her new studio album entitled; "People Have Names", Juliet's date at the Forum will afford fans the opportunity to hear both brand new material and some old favourites too.
Juliet Turner, who hails from Tummery in County Tyrone, music career began when she was given a guitar for her 15th birthday. In 1996, while studying in Strathclyde, Scotland, she enlisted the help of a musician she knew from Glasgow, Charlie Irvine to record a demo to promote her concerts. Irvine was so impressed with Juliet's songs he suggested they record an album together and out of a budget of £800 came the very fine debut, "Lets hear it for Pizza".
Through Irvine, Turner met her manager Derek Nally who began to book her support slots with artists such as: Bob Dylan, Arlo Gutherie, and Tracy Chapman. These supports slots quickly built up a cult following for Juliet throughout Ireland. With her profile so high, her manager decided to record a second album as soon as possible and producer Gerard Kiely gathered some very talented musicians to make, "Burn The Black Suit". Released in 2000 and backed by a nationwide tour, "Burn The Black Suit" went onto to sell 52,000 copies in Ireland alone. Juliet delivered her third studio album, "Season of the Hurricane" in 2004 and went platinum in Ireland in June of the same year. The release of newly recorded material seems to fall in a four year cycle and Juliet’s new studio album entitled; "People Have Names", (which has already received a four star review from The Irish Times) is eagerly anticipated.
On stage Turner tells little stories about her life drawing the audience into the palm of her hand and keeping them there with her witty intelligent lyrics and captivating melodies.Unlike many singer songwriters Juliet doesn't try to be anyone but herself. She has no qualms about singing in her northern accent, in fact the lilt works rhythmically with the melodies. Juliet Turner is a refreshing break from the innumerable 'Artists' who take themselves too seriously, unlike many of her peers she shares the inspiration and meaning of every song with her audience.
Juliet Turner plays Forum Waterford, on Saturday, 5th July. Doors: 8pm Show: 8.30pm. Tickets: €17.50 (including booking fee) are available now from Next Door, The Forum Tel: 051 871133
